7 Writing Tips for Sizzling Summer Content

Summer has finally arrived here in Alberta and it's the perfect time to kick back, relax, and enjoy a few margaritas in the sunshine. C’mon, we deserve it after a long, cold winter!

However, sometimes summer can act as a double-edged sword. As a blogger, it can be tough to stay motivated and come up with engaging content when all you want to do is hit the nearest patio.

That’s why we’ve come up with some easy tips for sprinkling more fun into your seasonal summer blog posts. Patio approved; we promise!

Stay Cool with Creative Titles

Think about all the fun summer-related words you can incorporate into your blog titles – sunshine, vacation, beach, BBQs… the sky’s the limit!

Allow your creative juices to flow and craft catchy and descriptive titles that will draw readers in and keep them hooked. If your title isn’t fun, it won’t get time in the sun – so don’t be afraid to stretch your brainstorming muscles to come up with an eye-catching headline!

Let the Outdoors Inspire You

The summer season is all about being outside and immersing yourself in the great outdoors is a great way to get inspired.

Bike through your local park, stroll down summery 17th Ave, head down to the river for some inspiration… whatever you like!

Pay attention to the sights, smells, and sounds around you and let it guide your writing muse. It could be anything from writing about summer fashion, to fun outdoor activities, to healthy recipes for summertime picnics.

Take Advantage of Summer Visuals

Summer is full of vibrancy, lush greenery, and picturesque landscapes, and integrating summery imagery into your blog is a great way to add color and dimension to your posts.

Add some vivid images that fit with your topic, or even create some fun graphics to make your blog post more appealing and eye-catching.

Whether it's a photo of your recent beach day or an infographic about summer fashion trends, visual aids can help break up the text and keep your readers engaged.

Embrace Chill Summer Vibes

Summertime is decompressing from the stress and keeping things fun and breezy! So keep the good times rolling with a bit of humor and lightheartedness in your posts, both of which are great additions to help keep readers engaged.

While it’s important to stay on point and not stray from your topic entirely, there’s nothing wrong with making some jokes, including a funny meme or GIF, or sharing a funny story.

Your readers will appreciate a break from the serious stuff and will be more likely to stick around and keep reading.

Be a Relatable King/Queen

Everyone loves reading content that they can relate to, so don't be afraid to share your own summer experiences and humorous mishaps.

Your experiences can also translate into great blog content so don’t be afraid to get personal!

For example, writing a post about your worst sunburn, or your struggles with packing the perfect beach bag, and then sharing some tips and tricks to ease the pain.

Read Up on Summer Trends

Summer is synonymous with trends, from fashion to food to travel.

These topics are easy fodder for a blog writer so make sure that you’re staying up-to-date and you’ll likely get plenty of new writing ideas out of it! Trends are also very relatable content (which we chatted about in the tip above) which can elevate your posts and make them more approachable.

Whether it's the latest swimwear styles or the hottest food trucks to try, your readers will appreciate your insights and recommendations.

Remember: Cut the Waffle

We’re not crazy (well, not completely anyways) when we say this. “Cut the waffle” is actually writer-speak for “staying on topic and getting to the point.”

Summer is a busy season, and your readers are likely to have a lot going on. Rambling, especially without a purpose, is guaranteed to lose the interest of your reader and have them clicking away from your page.

So, again… cut the waffle. Make sure your entries on topic, concise, and are easy to understand and navigate. Your readers will appreciate a quick read that they can enjoy on the go.
